Median age 42.8 and a 32.4% old-age dependency ratio put the Netherlands ahead of Europe's aging curve in the bad direction. Critically, this is a major RECEIVING state for intra-EU migration — Polish, Romanian, and Bulgarian workers prop up logistics, agriculture, and cleaning sectors that will be automated out of existence by 2035. Rising youth unemployment (8.1% → 10.9%) in a country with 4% headline unemployment signals the native Dutch pipeline is breaking; the imported labour cushion is hiding both a structural dependency and a coming collapse in the sectors that cushion built.

The Netherlands talks a serious AI game through the Dutch AI Coalition (NL AIC) and a national AI strategy, but execution is delegated to industry and Brussels. No serious reskilling fund, no industrial policy for sectors beyond ASML worship, and a caretaker technocratic PM (Schoof) with no electoral mandate to push structural reform. The nitrogen crisis has consumed political bandwidth so completely that AI policy is whatever the European AI Office doesn't preempt.
