Slovakia is one of the EU's most aggressive emigration exporters — an estimated 300,000+ Slovaks live and work abroad, concentrated in Austria, Germany, the UK, and Ireland. Rising from 17.2% to 22.3% youth unemployment over 12 months UNDERSTATES the collapse because the most capable, mobile young have already left; the denominator keeps shrinking while the labour market pretends to 'tighten'. Old-age dependency at 28.7% will accelerate sharply as the diaspora settles abroad permanently, fertility hovers around 1.5, and the country is bleeding its future tax base into Austrian construction sites and German care homes for jobs AI will automate within a decade.

Slovakia has no AI strategy. Fico's fourth government is consumed by social transfers, anti-LGBTI legislation, and maintaining cordial relations with Moscow. R&D spending sits around 0.8% of GDP — barely half the EU average and falling in real terms. The Ministry of Economy occasionally utters the word 'digitalization' but there is no industrial strategy for the EV transition, no retraining infrastructure, and no plan for the automotive displacement wave that will hit Slovakia harder than almost any other member state.
